Top Insta Pics of 2014

I know I have been a major slacker in my blogging lately.  Hopefully the New Year will bring in new changes.   I have however been reading your blogs and I stumbled across a fun link up.  Teachery Tidbits is hosting  a link up where you put up your Top 10 IG pics of 2014.   I must admit I love IG {it is probably my favorite social media}!!  It is so easy and quick to use.   So here we go my 10 favorite IG pics of 2014!

Buying school supplies is always fun.  Of course it helps to have bright colors and polka dots.

A little after school workshop fun {with a fellow photo bomber in tow}!

Our feeder high school had their Homecoming football parade.  My school had a float in the parade.  My youngest and I rode on the float, threw candy and beads while my oldest marched in the parade.

Lunch with a team mate!!!

An IG shot of my classroom!

My students using Go Noodle for the first time {we love using Go Noodle for brain breaks}!

This is me being silly on our field trip to the Corn Maze.   My class and I had a blast.

A girls trip to Dallas and Six Flags for the weekend to watch my oldest perform for dance.  Of course we did a little shopping while we were there.

We had a visitor come to our class and teach us the five 5 elements of portraits and how to relate it to reading.   The students were really into this.  I am lucky this year, because one of my student's mom works at a local art gallery.   We have several more visits lined up for the year!

This is a picture of the girls, my parents, and I at the Christmas Festival in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

That about wraps up my Top 10 Instagram Pics for 2014.  If you are following me, then I can't wait to share more pics with you in the New Year.  If not then you can follow me @teachingtidbitswithjamie!  Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek!

December Currently

I am linking up with Farley for her Currently!

Most of mine are self explanatory.   I have really been on mad search this Cyber Monday for a Beats Pill XL speaker.   I scored the Beats headphones 1/2 off on Black Friday, so I was kinda hoping to find a great deal on Cyber Monday on the speaker.  I haven't had any luck yet.  I am going to hold out, because I am hoping they will put it on sale in the next week or so.   The XL version is a little pricey, but it is the only thing on my oldest list!

I am not a big coffee drinker, but I love Starbucks hot chocolate!  In fact just thinking about it making me want some.  It is so delicious, but of course I need extra whip cream.

Now for my giving:  I am offering my Christmas digital paper pack free to you {only for a short period of time}, so be sure to grab it while it is free.  If you do download, please be nice and leave feedback.  Click on the image to go to my TpT store and download.

Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek!

A Return From a Short Hiatus

I have not blogged in while {try like … a month} and I really have good reasons!

My house has been in total chaos with remodeling.  That is right, we decided to remodel our kitchen and what was suppose to only take about a week and half turned into four weeks!!!  I have been up to my eyeballs in dust.  But I can finally say that is complete and although it took forever I am happy with the results.

My house is not that old {about 6 years old} but I felt like everything in my kitchen/hearth area was just way too dark.  Plus, we didn't have a lot of natural light coming in.  So we changed our paint colors, added travertine floors, and back splash.  Then while we were at it we decided to paint the entire house.   This is a picture of the hearth room, which is connected to the kitchen.

I really wanted more of a true gray, but with the granite counter tops being the color they are we decided on a taupe color with gray undertones!!  The new paint color looks kinda khaki in this picture, but it actually has slight gray undertones if you could see it in person.  The color I used in called Bennett Gray by Benjamin Moore.

To top all of this off with my house being under construction, my household keeps getting the crud.  The first round was strep throat.  Can I just say it is no fun when both kiddos have it??   As soon as we get over that, BAM my house is hit with the stomach bug this past week.  And let me tell you, it has ran through my household with a vengeance.  Even the hubs and I have caught it.   It did not matter how much we Lysol the house down, it was just hanging on!

Hopefully with Thanksgiving Break we can all catch up on rest and get ourselves and our house back in order.  Wait … did I say order??  Does that really even exist {LOL}? Now it is time to decorate for Christmas!  I don't mind though, decorating for Christmas is one of my favorite things to do.

So now on to what has been going on in my classroom!   We have started introducing 2 digit addition and subtraction without regrouping.   My class seems to be catching on to this, so that is a good thing!  It will make things easier when it comes time to teach regrouping after our break.

We have also officially started our timed drills.  My school/parish and me as well expect them to have their basic facts memorized by the end of second grade.  Even though we are moving on to 2 digit, you can never have enough practice of the basic skills, wouldn't you agree??  We work toward earning a fudge sundae.  This is the board we use in our class to keep up with everyones progression.

I also decided to participate in the Great American Mail Race.  Do any of you participate in this?  We received a letter from another student from another school.   Then each of my students has to write a letter {or 2} and send it out randomly to a school in each state.   I always get letters for this each year, and  I always write back to the child who sent the letter.  However, this is the first time I decided to let my own class send letters.  So if by some chance you get a letter from us, please respond even if you don't allow your own class to participate.   It is was by some miracle we were able to get this completed by the time break arrived, but we pulled it off.  I don't know about you guys, but the writing process always takes us a while.  Especially if we are doing a true writing process from start to finish.  Plus with me being sick and missing several days of school right before break it was hard playing catch up.  Don't you just hate when you have to be out??

Although Thanksgiving is over yet, the teacher in me is always planning ahead.  So I have also been getting my stuff ready for Christmas.   We will have Disguise the Snowman and of course Christmas Around the World.  I have some really neat ideas/crafts planned for my class.  With the craziness of all the holidays I will definitely have to keep them busy.  If your looking for something to use in small group/centers or even whole group be sure to check out my Christmas Literacy Set!

Well that about wraps it up for me and a little catch up on what has been going on!  Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek!

Sunday Scoop, Sunday Circular, and tsu (A New Way to Connect)

Welcome friends!  I am doing a few link ups and then I am sharing some really cool news with you about a new social site.  So please hang tight to the end!!!

Up first, I am linking up with All Things Apple in Second for her weekly Sunday Savings Party.  This is my first time to link up and I am offering my Thanksgiving Literacy Activities set 50% off!   Included in this set are activities that cover contractions, sentence scramble, common & proper nouns, main idea with supporting details, guide words, and 2 writing prompts.   All of the activities are themed around Thanksgiving.  I always use this set in my small group setting, but it could be used as a whole class as well.  Be sure to stop by my TPT shop and check it out.

{This show a small preview of what is included}

Up next, I am linking up with Teaching Trio for Sunday Scoop!!  I don't know about you guys, but October is always a hectic month for me!  I am ready for November to come so things will slow down a bit.

Now on to my last, but not least thing!!  Have you heard of the new social site called tsu (pronounced sue)???  Well Second Grade is Out of this World was the first to introduce it to me and after reading up on it I think I really may like it { a lot}!!  It has a Facebook, Instagram, Pintrest vibe kinda all rolled into one.  But here is the really neat part, you can earn money just for posting stuff. That's right… you can earn money just for posting your everyday stuff like you do on Facebook or Instagram.  But the only thing is, in order to join you have to be invited by someone (the Pintrest Vibe).  No worries it is totally free and I promise once you sign on you will love it.  As a matter of fact when I started playing with it, I found myself liking it better than Facebook (oh no .. did I just hear myself right).

I want all of you to have a chance to join, so here is your personal invite.  Visit tsu.co, you will need a code when you sign on:  click HERE for the code(just click, copy, and paste).  It is that easy.  Be sure to visit Second Grade is Out of the World and follow Hiliary too!

Now you may be asking how can I earn money by doing this, well Hiliary really breaks it down for you on her blog post (click to read it here), but basically it is like this:

Tsū’s algorithm automatically tracks, measures, and distributes revenue to the appropriate user and their family tree. At a high level, 90% of revenues are distributed to users. To maintain the platform, tsū receives 10%. To see how this breaks down, let’s take a look at 4 users, all with varying start dates on tsū.
User A invites user B, who invites user C, who invites user D
Part 1
– $100 of earned revenue is generated based on the content user D shared (photos, videos, status updates, etc.)
Part 2
– 90% of earned revenue go to the users. In this case, $90 of the $100 is shared with all the users.
– tsū takes 10% of the $100 for platform fees. In this case $10.
Part 3
– User D, the original content creator takes 50% of the $90. In this case, $45.
– User C gets 33.3% (1/3) of the original $90 generated. In this case, $29.70
– User B gets 11.1% (1/3 of 1/3 = 1/9) of the original $90 generated. In this case $9.99
– User A gets 3.70% (1/3 of 1/3 of 1/3 = 1/27) of the original $90 generated. In this case $3.33
– This is what we call the rule of infinite thirds"

So why not join???  It is totally free and no (in case your wondering) you are not going to get really super rich, but why not earn a few extra dollars doing what we all do anyways - right??  What do you have to lose?  So come on and join me on the tsu journey!

Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek! Have a great week!

Five for Friday

One of my student's mom works at a local art gallery/museum.  She came to our class and taught the six elements of a portrait and how you can use them to help you when reading.  The kids loved looking at all the different famous portraits.

Pumpkins are starting to flow in and they are as cute as ever.   For the past two years I have the students to write a report using their favorite book and then decorate a pumpkin as the main character.  I just love the Giving Tree in the top corner.  You can find the report template in my Pumpkin  Book Report Craftivity.

With all things fall we have been as busy as usual.  We had my school's fall carnival.  I was in charge of face painting.   By the end of the night I was really good at painting a pumpkin, cat, and a spider.

On Wednesday we took a field trip to the Corn Maze.  It was such much fun.  I heard many of the children say that it was the best day ever!  Of course we went through the corn maze, but we also made butter, ice cream, hayrides, barnyard swings, learned about animals, and picked pumpkins in a pumpkin patch.

Recently my oldest had a dance performance at a local arts festival, The Revel.  The girls had fun making arts and crafts in the kid section.
That about wraps in up for my busy hectic week!   Just hang in there, November is almost here!!  Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek.
