I am linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching {First Grade Rocks} for its Five for Friday linky party. So here are the five things I did this week:
I would like to say that I accomplished more, but one shall always tell the truth. I am listing this as my number one. Why you might ask, well because it is mostly what I did. As a matter of fact the kiddos and I were at the pool all day Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday {pitiful I know}. After all it is summer … right? I love watching them playing with all their friends, playing some of the same games I use to play. Let’s face it, who is not down with a good game of Categories or Marco Polo. With all these lazy hours at the pool I am able to catch up on some reading, chat with some fellow teachers, and just be! Plus who would not want to splash around with these two cuties!
The second thing I did this week was work on a page that will go on my teacher website. The parish I work in requires that all teachers keep a teacher webpage that can be linked back up with our schools website. We currently are using the system School Loop. I try to keep my webpage coordinated with my classroom theme. However, we are getting a new reading series this coming school year. So I am having to go in and change up the high frequency words link to match the new series. We are required to test on these words at the end of each nine week grading period. We have a different set of words for each grading period. I also will give a list of these words to go in their student binder so they will have a copy of the words to study. I have other stuff on my teacher webpage, but this is one of the main things I have to update.
My number three is that I spent a few hours here and there searching TpT, blogs, and websites for any information I could find on our new reading series that we will be using this year. This coming year we will be full blown Common Core. However, the parish I work in has decided to adopt a new reading and math series as well. The new series will correlate with Common Core. We have not received our manuals yet, but I am really excited to see what the series has to offer. So I spent some time searching and have found several things on TpT to add to my wish list.
My number four revolves around appointments. We had to make two trips to the dentist. Both of my kiddos had to get their teeth cleaned. I always try to make the appointments in the summer that way they will not have to miss school. My oldest is a champ at the dentist. It may be because this is what she wants to be when she grows up. My youngest is the worst patient {I really feel for the dentist}. The first appoint strictly revolved around getting teeth cleaned. There was not one thing that was used that involved pain or medicine. But you would have thought that the youngest was having every single tooth pulled. I only have one word for it “embarrassed”. I will spare you the details of this humiliating task. But embarrassed is how I totally felt. We had to return the next day to have my oldest sealant replaced. Thank my lucky stars it was the oldest. I don’t know if I could have handle two days of drama at the dentist office. The other appointment was to pick up my new glasses. For the past year seeing things far off has become increasingly hard to do. And driving at night – pretty scary. The hubs informed me for his own safety in the car I needed to get my eyes check. It turns out he was right. I will be officially wearing glasses come this next school year. My kiddos informed me that it makes me look like “one of those old lady teachers” {wasn’t sure if this was a good or bad compliment}!
My number 5 involves a little shopping. I made a trip to Hobby Lobby that was not planned. I was on that side of town and could not resist to stop. I told myself to have willpower, but I failed. I will stop even when I know there is absolutely not one thing I need. Somehow though I always manage to find something. My hubs says I should invest in Hobby Lobby Stock {don’t tell – but he is probably right}. So I found some really cute ribbon that I can use in my class, some jumbo sparkly letters {everything looks better with sparkles} and scrapbook paper. I just grabbed a few colors that I was low on. I also managed to squeeze in a little shoe shopping at DSW. I picked up some really cute wedge sandals at 30% off the sale price – now that is what I call a deal.
Thanks for stopping by and reading my Five for Friday. I am new to this, so I hope to get some new followers and look forward to reading your Five for Friday!!!! Have a great weekend!
