A New Grammar Pack and Freebie for You

I wanted to share with you my newest product that I finally finished and have officially uploaded into my TpT shop.  I have been working on this little baby since Christmas and I was able to finally put all the finishing touches on it over Spring Break.  I know I have said it before, but it takes me a while to complete a product.  I have to work on it here and there when time allows.  I am really proud of this product and it was much needed in my classroom.

We adopted a new reading series this year, "Reading Street".  I really like the series, but the one thing I feel like it lacks is sufficient grammar practice.  I am constantly digging and pulling extra worksheets or games for the kids to practice grammar skills.  So I decided to make my own pack covering the basic parts of speech, which I know get covered in second grade.  I plan on using these to help reinforce the grammar skills taught throughout the year.  They would be great to use during small group setting, extra practice, or for homework.  There are 30 worksheets/printables included in the set.  They range from identifying the parts of speech to applying them in sentences.   I have also provided answer keys for each page.   Be sure to look at the previews below to get a closer look at what is included.  If you are interested click on any of the links below to visit my TpT shop.

Now on to the goodies.  Just for my blogging buddies, I have included three of worksheets from this set in a free download just for you.  Just click on the image below to download through Google Docs.  I hope you can use and enjoy them!!!

As always thanks for stopping by and taking a peek!!!  I {heart} comments and followers!!!

Five for Friday

I am back for a Five for Friday.  This is my first one in about a month.  I kinda, sorta been on a small blogging hiatus.  I haven't done it on purpose, but my family and I have been so crazy busy lately.  It has been a little hard to fit it all in.  But with spring and summer just around the corner, here is hoping to better blogging organization.

The first thing I am super excited about is that after today Spring Break officially starts for me.   It is a much needed break.   This past week felt like it has just dragged on and on.  I know all  the kiddos are excited too.  The hubs and I had talked about traveling over our spring break somewhere to the mountains {we were thinking Tennessee}, but I think we have kinda ruled that out now.  So at this point it just looks like lazy days around the house.  You never know though,  we have been known to pack it up at last minute and do something.

I know this picture is long over due, but I just had to share with you our Read Across America Day.   Our kiddos came dressed all in black.  And guess what, the rest of the costume is made at school.  That is right:  that is a hand drawn hat by me that he kids color and bow tie that one of the other teacher had drawn out.  The students cut it out and we pin it to their shirts.  Then we paint their faces up like a cat and they are good to go.  The rest of their day is spent rotating reading fun Dr. Seuss books and completing fun activities.

We are currently studying money right now!!  My kids are doing an awesome job at counting coins.   On Monday we played a money counting game.  My students love to play math games.

As I mentioned in an earlier blog post my daughter did make it to the regional social studies fair.  So, we loaded up our project with high hopes, but no such luck.  Although she did not place I was still proud of all her hard work.   Plus we were able to spend the day together with a little one on one time.   And how do you fix a nine year old who is bummed out about not winning, you stop for ice-cream on the way home.

For my number five, I thought I would share this picture I took of my two kiddos in our backyard way  down by the bayou.  I had to get a really great picture of the two them for their upcoming dance recital program book.  In the program book most parents buy a small picture space and write a sweet message to their dancer.  So I decided to take the picture myself.  I used my really good camera to capture the shot.  I think it turned out fairly decent for an amateur.  Believe it or not it was really chilly on this day, but they wanted to wear their new spring dresses for the photo.  So they decided to suffer through it {Oh, the joys of girl stuff}!!!

Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek!!!   If any of you are also starting your spring break I would love to hear how you plan on spending you time!!!  I {heart} comments and followers!!!

Spring is in the Air … Kinda

Spring is in the air … or at least it was.  The past few days it has felt so nice and warm outside and then this morning I woke back up to really cold temperatures again.  Old Man Winter just doesn't want to let go!!!  I did manage to get a little yard work completed this weekend.  I was able to get my garden all weeded, prepped, and ready to go.  I am so glad that I held off on putting my vegetables in.  I was so tempted yesterday to buy my plants and go ahead and plant them, but something told me I should hold off and wait a few more weeks.  My papaw {who is the best gardener I know} always tells me I should really wait until after Easter to get my garden going.   He says that people always are fooled by warm temperatures but there are always a chance of a early spring freeze and that you should hold off for a few more weeks.  Well at least my garden will be ready to go and all I will have to do is pop the plants into the ground.  I will post pictures later.

I did however want to share with you my spring goodies that I just made for my TpT shop.   Up first I made a spring themed digital paper pack that I am in love with.   I think it may be my new fav.   I know I say that each time.  But each time I like the colors and layouts even better than before.   This set has a lot of distressed papers in it, which I am totally hooked on right now.

After making my papers of course I had to use them in a fun activity.  So, I decided to use them as my backgrounds in my Easter Literacy Centers.  I really love all the games in this set and can't wait to use them in my classroom during small group time.

Be sure to stop by and check these two awesome products out and here is hoping to warmer days ahead!!!  Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek!  I {heart} comments and followers!!!  Hope you all have a great week!

Read Across America Week Linky

I love to celebrate Read Across America Week!!!  Even the older children still love to read a good Dr. Seuss book.  Does anyone ever outgrow a Dr. Seuss book?  I am in my late thirties and I still love to read the tongue twister fun loving character books.  I am linking up with The Primary Chalkboard to share with you some of my favorite children authors.  Of course we all love Dr. Seuss so I decided to share a few of my other favorites.

For my first favorite children's author I must admit I love Mary Pope Osborne and I am especially fond of this collection:  The Magic Tree House.  I have read almost every single book in the collection.  I think I am lacking maybe four.  What I love best about this author is that even though she has written a fiction book she still manages to bring in nonfiction.   When my second graders are making the transition into chapter books this is always one of my recommendations.   I find the boys really love this series.

Next up is the beloved Eric Carle.  I can't decide if it is the story or the art work I like the best.  I think it may be a toss up.  I really like some of the books that are leveled for older children.  One of my favorites is "The Tiny Seed".

I absolutely fantastically adore {I am using fancy words} all things Jane O'Connor and Fancy Nancy.  I know this is a total girl book, but I can't help it.  I have two small girls and we love to read these books together.  I wish my daughters school had book character day so bad, just so I could dress them up as Fancy Nancy.  Jane O'Conner has recently started adding the Nancy Clancy chapter books for the older readers to the collection.  I was so happy about this because it works out perfectly for my own fourth grader.

I saved my best for last.  E.B White's, "Charlotte's Web" is my all time favorite children's book.   I love, love, love this book!!!!  I have read it so many times I have lost count.   And it does not matter how many times I read it, I still tear up when Charlotte dies.  I  think this is the best book in the world to teach about friendship.  I read this book aloud every year to my class at the end of the year and we do a unit on "Charlotte's Web".  In all the years I have taught elementary I have never once heard a child say a negative thing about this book.  They always give this book praise.   It is always a big hit with second and third graders.

Be sure to link up to share your favorite authors!!!

March Currently Linky

I can't believe that March is already here.  Before we know it will be summer time and oh, how I love my summer breaks!   But right now I am ready for some much needed warmer weather.  I love all things that springtime brings.  I also really love this buck on this months currently.  I think he is kinda cute!!!

Listening:

I am listening to my kiddos dribble the ball in the house.  They know  there is not to be any basketballs in the house so I am on top of it to figure out why outside toys are coming in.

Loving:

Today we are having such lovely weather.   It feels like a warm spring day.  But I think it is only a tease, because next week it is suppose to dip back down in the 20's.

Thinking:

I would not have even given posting today a second thought if I had not set down to check out a few of my favorite blogs.  It totally slipped my mind that today was March 1st.  Where is the time flying??

Wanting:

We get our Spring Break toward the end of March and I am so excited.  I can't wait.  It will be a much needed break.

Needing:

I need to go drop my taxes off to our CPA.  I have it all piled up and ready to go but I just keep putting it off.   My husband runs his own business on the side of his regular job.  Every year I dread getting all the receipts and junk together to file taxes, but one thing is for sure:  death and taxes {ha}!!!

Can you guess my ?????  I think it may be an easy one!!!

Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek.   I {heart} followers and comments!!!
