April is for D.E.A.R.!

Did you know all month long teachers everywhere celebrate D.E.A.R.?  D.E.A.R stands for "Drop Everything and Read"!  It was all started by one of my all time favorite children's author Beverly Clearly.  I am sure many of you love reading her books too!  How could you not relate love Ramona Quimby???

D.E.A.R was in the Ramona Quimby, Age 8 book.  Do you remember??  This is what Ramona's teacher basically called silent reading time.   Well guess what, all month long you can find fun activities to do with your class to incorporate D.E.A.R at the Drop Everything and Read website!!!

Last year {about this time} my class and I started reading Ramona Quimby, Age 8.  I must admit they loved the book!  Plus is was the first time several of the kids had read a chapter book.  You know how it goes in second grade,  some kids are full blown into chapter books and some are not too sure about them yet!  We read this book as a class and did all activities together!  The kids loved it!  At the end of the book we watched the movie, Ramona and Beezus.  {Disclaimer - the movie puts several elements from different books together!} This didn't bother the kiddos though, they loved the movie just the same.  I am getting ready to start this book again with my class this year too.   If you are looking for a good pack to go with Ramona Quimby, Age 8, I have one in my TpT shop!  As a matter of fact, it has been a big seller these past few weeks.  It is geared for second grade and up.  I have all the questions, vocabulary, and answer key for each chapter.  There are a few writing crafts too! Be sure to stop by and check it out!

I love to hear how you are going to Drop Everything and Read this month, please share any fun ideas!!!

Five for Friday

Stop the madness, what is this???  I have actually linked up twice this week.  Hard to believe since I have been a tad bit of a slacker lately.  It feels good to link up and blog.  I have enjoyed catching up on some your post too!

Well most of my Spring Break has been watching movies, laying around the house, and just being lazy.  Why you might ask??  My poor little one had to have her tonsils out!  But she has hung in there like a real trooper, plus we {notice I mention WE} have gotten to eat a lot of yummy Popsicles.

Since I have been home all week I am slowly becoming addicted to Netflix's new series Bloodline.  It is so, so good.  This is the first season and it has 15 episodes.  Plus Sissy Spacek, Sam Shepard, and Kyle Chandler star in it, so what is not love.  If you are looking for a serious good family drama with all the twist and murder plots that a good drama would have, then this is your show!  I had read several excellent reviews about it and decided I would check it out.  I recommend it in a heartbeat.  But be warned it is not for little ears!!!

I know this is a little late but I wanted to share some of my students drawings.  We followed the directions from First grade Blue Skies directed drawings.  I love how the directions are so simple to follow.  I love to draw and I find drawing easy to do, but many people do not.  What I like about this is,  even students who normally do not draw that well are able to produce an awesome picture.   One of my students even commented, "I didn't know I could draw so good"!

We just finished up our money unit in math.   I have to say that most of my kiddos did well with money.  When we return from Spring Break we are going to be starting measurement! (Sorry no pic - I left that camera at school!)

Last but not least, the Friday before Spring Break I hosted my first Bunco.  Some ladies and I in my neighborhood started up a Bunco group.  I volunteered to go first and of course the theme was all green for St. Patty's day!  We had a good time.   Our next theme is Gardening.  I have know idea what I am going to wear yet!  Any suggestions???

Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek!  I {heart} comments!

April Currently

Well hello friends, I am linking up with Farley for her monthly Currently.  I just love this background, don't you???

I am on Spring Break right now.  It has been nice not having to go to work, but the only thing is my youngest had to have her tonsils out.  We have pretty much been cooped up all week in the house.  I am glad to say she is finally starting to feel better.  I wish I could say that I accomplished more this week, but sadly I did not.  Well there is always summer!!!

Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek!
